Chevrolet Cruze hatchback

The Chevrolet Cruze hatchback will get its production-ready debut at Geneva Motor Show. Dubbed Cruze HB5, the hatchback is identical to the Cruze sedan from the rear doors forward.

Offering customers an alternative body style of the award-winning Cruze Sedan, the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback sports an attractive sweeping coupe roofline and short overhangs at both the front and rear. It exudes the same dynamic stance as the renowned Cruze sedan yet utilizes body-frame integral system to ensure pleasant driving experience and handling.

The compact segment in Europe represents a quarter of the total market and hatchbacks account for about 65% of the compact segment. The Cruze hatch uses the same structure as the sedan to remain true to the taut ride and handling characteristics preferred by European drivers. The main difference is a cargo capacity of 400 litres, which expands exponentially with the use of 60/40 split folding seats.

Expected to power the Cruze hatchback are the same power plants as in the sedan variant - a 113 PS (83 kW / 111 hp) 1.6-liter petrol, a 141 PS (104 kW / 139 hp) 1.8-liter petrol, and a 150 PS (110 kW / 148 hp) 2.0-liter diesel.

Geneva world premiere for Cruze hatchback

  • New model to build on global success of Chevrolet's favorite car
  • Cruze hatchback cements Chevrolet's mainstream credentials in Europe
  • One of seven new entries in centenary year

Zurich. Chevrolet's award-winning - and now World Touring Car Championship (WTCC)-winning - Cruze will further enhance its credentials this year when the new hatchback version goes on sale in spring. The full production model makes its world premiere at the 81st international Geneva Motor Show, March 3 - 11.

The timing of the new model couldn't be better for Chevrolet, with the manufacturer being crowned World Touring Car Champions in December for the first time. Chevrolet's racing success proves the dynamic potential and qualities of the Cruze, while the launch of a new 5-door hatchback model in addition to the sedan, is further evidence of Chevrolet's intention to bring value for money to the mainstream segments of the European market.

A show car version of Chevrolet's compact contender was shown at the Paris Motor Show last September, and was warmly received.

Sales of the Cruze last year surpassed the Aveo to become Chevrolet's top selling passenger car nameplate globally. Since its launch in the spring 2009, the Cruze sedan has been warmly welcomed by markets all over the world, greeted as a step change for the brand with customers attracted to its coupe style, build quality, 5-star NCAP rating and driving dynamics. It was also elected the AUTOBEST car of 2010 by a jury of leading auto writers in Central and Eastern Europe.

The introduction of the new Cruze hatchback is critical in Europe, as Wayne Brannon, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe explains. "Hatchbacks play a critical role in many markets. The total compact segment in Europe represents over a quarter of the total market, with hatchbacks representing around 65% of that volume.

"The new Cruze hatchback cements that Chevrolet's claim for a place among the mainstream brands in Europe, and it's a vehicle that will bring new levels of value against some of the more established competition."

Hatchback design

With its attractive sweeping coupe roofline and short overhangs at both the front and rear, the new Cruze hatchback has the same dynamic 'stance' as the sedan and will be instantly recognizable.

It will benefit too from the same taut body 'feel' on the road, being built using the new body-frame integral system (BFI) which is complemented by the final tuning to chassis components. The BFI system results in high levels of stability and solidity. Indeed the Chevrolet Cruze is a car particularly well suited to European driver tastes, a fact borne out by sales across many of the markets and where in 2010, it exceeded forecasts.

Cargo capacity for the Cruze hatchback is close to 400 liters and it will feature 60/40 split rear seating.

The new Chevrolet Cruze 5-door hatchback will go on sale across Europe in mid 2011 with prices announced nearer the launch date.

2011 Carlsson C25 Royale

German tuner Carlsson has revealed the new C25 Royale Super GT at the Geneva Motor Show. The Carlsson C25 Royale Super GT is based on the Mercedes SL 65 AMG, featuring unique carbon fibre body and interior. The 6.0 litre bi-turbo V12 engine is upgraded to produce an 743bhp) and an electronically limited 848 lb-ft of torque.

Carlsson’s Super GT – C25 Royale sports over 70 innovations and is 180 kilograms lighter than its basis Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, due largely to its complete real carbon exterior. Aimed at offering customers an exclusive ride that can be used as both, a ultra-fast race-like car or a daily ride, the Carlsson C25 Royale further highlights a full ceramic brake system and lower center of gravity, which allows more dynamic cornering ability and more agile handling.

Power is sent to rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission, enabling the 1,970kg luxury sports coupe to accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 219 mph.

Inside, the cabin is relatively untouched but there is a revised center console which is cantered towards the driver. If you find this less than thrilling, you can add carbon fiber trim (€13,564), a FOCAL audio system (€18,860), and the Clubsport package which includes race seats, a roll cage, a fire extinguisher, and six-point safety harnesses (€35,400).

Press Release

World premiere in Geneva:
Super GT Carlsson C25 Royale

  • More than 70 innovations in Carlsson's new Super GT
  • C25 Royale saves 180 kilograms of weight compared to basis model
  • Roof made from real carbon lowers the car's centre of gravity
  • V12 biturbo engine with 753 hp capable of achieving 352 kph
  • Each vehicles is absolutely unique

As part of its new 2011 generation range, automobile manufacturer Carlsson presents its C25 Royale Super GT with carbon roof and exterior, optimised driving dynamics and perfected electronics. The philosophy remains the same: with excellent design and the utmost in exclusivity, the C25 Royale combines maximum driving performance with everyday practicality.

Safety is another area where the C25 Royale fulfils highest standards. This is due to the crash structure which is the same as in the basis model and guarantees maximal protection for the passengers. Also, the Super GT presents itself extremely easy to service. All workshop of the worldwide Mercedes-Benz service network can service the C25 Royale.

The C25 Royale presents itself as a counter-design to the electro hype. More than 40 electric motors are used in the C25 Royale as well - but underneath the bonnet you'll find a traditional 12-cylinder engine, whose 753 hp ensure not only power but also thunderous drive. The purified exhaust gases make an impressive sound as they exit through the four diamond-shaped tailpipes into the open air. The breathtaking power pushes the driver into the ergonomically shaped seats, which have a massage function and a ventilation system to ensure greater comfort on long journeys. In addition, the transmission tunnel, incorporating all the important control functions, is headed towards the driver, allowing him to give his full attention to the road ahead. Because in the C25 Royale, the journey is its own reward.

Carlsson has realised more than 70 innovations in the new C25 Royale. The car's handling in particular is better than ever before. Plus, compared to the basis model Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, the C25 Royale is 180 kilogram lighter which is due largely to the complete real carbon exterior. This not only reduces the overall weight of the Super GT, it also effectively lowers the car's centre of gravity and allows more dynamic cornering ability and more agile handling as Carlsson has revised the vehicle's entire weight distribution and installed a differential lock. The full ceramic brake system reduces the weight by 50 percent and reduces the unsprung mass for a more dynamic handling. The generously designed ceramic brake discs and the solid aluminium callipers allows later braking coming into bends while the revised electronics guarantee improved response, giving greater dynamism when coming off bends.

The C25 Royale's outstanding performance data is impressive too. The strikingly beautiful sports coupé with the V12 biturbo engine achieves 753 hp (554 kW) and maximum torque of 1320 Newton metres (which is limited electronically to 1150 Newton metres). This allows the Super GT to race from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds and to achieve a maximum speed of 352 kph.

Only one C25 per country guarantees the utmost in exclusivity

In addition, Carlsson (which has been recognised as an independent manufacturer for some years now by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority Kraftfahrtbundesamt) can offer one excellent unique selling point: Not more than 25 specimens of the C25 Royale are being made. And, to enhance the exclusivity of this ultra-limited edition still further, Carlsson is only delivering one vehicle per country. Six vehicles are already sold and will be delivered to the customers in 2011. It takes six month from order to delivery.

Each C25 Royale is absolutely unique. Colours and paint combinations can be put together as per the customer's wishes. Similarly, the customer can decide what materials are used and what interior features their vehicle will have. Not one of the already ordered vehicles is alike the other ones.

Maximum performance combined with everyday comfort for the first time

The Carlsson C25 Royale is not just an exclusive vehicle with outstanding performance data. The engineers at Gut Wiesenhof, Carlsson's headquarters in Germany, are the ones in the world to bring together the performance data of a super car with everyday practicality. "There are more than enough super cars around that can only be driven safely on a racing track", says engineer Markus Schuster, Managing Director at Carlsson. "We deliberately wanted to develop a car that is exclusive on the one hand but can still be used for the daily commute to the office. A Super GT which can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds while at the same time offering the utmost in ride comfort."

In particular, the intelligent C-Tronic® SUSPENSION developed by Carlsson guarantees excellent ride comfort. This system measures a whole range of parameters, like the spring rate, on a continuous basis, which allows it to detect the road conditions and the driving style. Where road conditions are poor, the C-Tronic® raises the residual spring travel, thereby providing optimal ride comfort. As soon as the surface conditions have improved, the system will lower the entire suspension completely automatically and achieve perfect cornering dynamics.

Emotions instead of sacrifice

The twelve-cylinder reflects the company's performance capacity and competence. Carlsson emphasises on first-class engineering instead of immature technology, on daily suitability instead of utopian scenarios, on emotions instead of sacrifice.

With the C25 Royale, Carlsson has gone one step further on the road to developing a completely new class of vehicle. No other car manages to combine excellent driving performance, unique design, perfect everyday practicality and the utmost in exclusivity.
