2011 Detroit Auto Show: Mopar Fiat 500 and Chrysler 200

Chrysler announced that will bring two new Moparized vehicles at this year's edition 2011 Detroit Motor Show : the 2012 Fiat 500 and the Chrysler 200 Super S.

The Mopar Fiat 500 kit includes only cosmetic mods, however, we're sure there are power upgrade kits available in the USA too. The Mopar Fiat 500 comes with new side skirts and a lot of chrome. The shiny stuff is used for the Mopar Fiat 500's exhaust tip, mirror covers, fuel cap, and grilles. The Mopar Fiat 500 also comes with various decals, a rear window-mount rack, snowboard carrier, and a strut tower brace.

Not being big on interior updates, Mopar only switched out the Fiat 500’s standard interior for one filled with Katzkin leather (black with blue accents) and different carbon fiber inserts.

The Chrysler 200 Super S is dropped three inches and sports a black and tungsten paint scheme. The bodywork gets updated with a slew of parts including lower chin and rear decklid spoilers. Riding on a set of 19-inch wheels, the 200 Super S gets a major shot in the style department... for better of for worse.

"More than 30 percent of the people who are in the market for a new vehicle are influenced by the breadth and availability of aftermarket accessories," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC's service, parts and customer-care brand. "With our company's launch of 16 new vehicles, Mopar is coming to the party with a truck-load of accessories that will fit a variety of lifestyles."

In its 48,800 sq.-ft. exhibit on the main floor in the middle of Oakland Hall at Cobo Center, Chrysler Group will feature more than 100 Mopar accessories and performance parts throughout its display of 57 vehicles. Customized vehicles will include the Chrysler 200, Dodge Durango, Fiat 500, Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition, and the Ram Outdoorsman.

Since its debut, the Ram Runner video has generated more than 100,000 views on social media sites. Mopar announced today that production for the Ram Runner parts package will begin in March.

In addition to Moparized vehicles, the company will also feature live demos in its Accessorization Station. To show ease of installation, Mopar accessories will be installed on the 2011 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition.

"Our goal is to show consumers how easy it is to personalize and accessorize their ride," said Gorlier. "And like we did with the introduction of our Mopar Ram Runner, we will gauge reaction to accessories that we plan to offer in the future."

Following is a selection of featured Moparized vehicles that will be on display in the Chrysler Group exhibit:

Mopar Ram Runner

The Mopar Ram Runner, inspired by Baja-style desert racing, is a 4x4 unlike any other Ram. Inspired by trophy trucks, steel front fenders and rear bed-sides are replaced with fiberglass, allowing tremendous suspension articulation with zero interference.

Mopar is Chrysler Group LLC's service, parts and customer-care brand.

Mopar distributes approximately 280,000 parts and accessories in more than 90 countries and is the source for all original-equipment parts for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles. Mopar parts are unique in that they are engineered and tested with the same teams that create factory-authorized vehicle specifications for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles - a direct connection that no other aftermarket parts company can provide. A complete list of Mopar accessories and performance parts is available at www.mopar.com

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Mopar (a simple contraction of the words Motor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s-the muscle-car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth "package cars" equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of "special parts" for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Racing Coupe Revealed

Cadillac will be unveiling its new CTS-V Coupe race car – which is set to take part in the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT racing series this season – in Detroit at the 2010 North American International Auto Show next Monday.

The CTS-V Coupe will have to undergo plenty of modifications to meet up to the SCCA standards, but Cadillac has yet to announce what the changes for the future race car will include. Of course, the fact that the standard coupe gets a 556 HP V8 engine is reason enough for some teams to be shaking in their performance tires.

The sports car got some decent changes to its setup, like a carbon fiber body work, a ventilated hood, an aggressive diffuser, and a massive rear wing.

Press Release

CTS-V Coupe Race Car Photography

Cadillac announced today it will return to racing in 2011 with a race-prepared version of its CTS-V Coupe competing in the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge, North America’s top production-based racecar series.

The move returns Cadillac to a series where it competed from 2004 to 2007. Competing in the GT Class with the CTS-V Sport Sedan, Cadillac captured the Manufacturer’s Championship in 2005 and 2007 and the Driver’s Championship in 2005.

Cadillac will field two teams in the upcoming SCCA World Challenge GT Class with a racecar based on the CTS-V Coupe. The CTS-V line, which also includes the CTS-V Sedan and CTS-V Wagon, was recently named to Car and Driver magazine’s 10 Best list for 2011.

“Returning to racing in the SCCA World Challenge is a great way to demonstrate the performance and capability of the CTS-V Coupe,” said Don Butler, vice president for Cadillac marketing. “The racecars in this series are production based, which allows us to validate our performance against the best of our competitors on the track, and not just the showroom.”

Cadillac is working with Pratt & Miller, a New Hudson, Mich., engineering firm which specializes in motorsports, to develop the CTS-V Coupe racecar. While some of the production CTS-V components will be modified due to the unique demands of racing or to meet the SCCA series’ technical rules, every effort is taken to maintain as much production content as possible.

“The SCCA World Challenge lends itself well to a natural transfer of knowledge,” said Jim Campbell, GM vice president for Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “The series will become a key test-bed for Cadillac. We anticipate using what we learn on the racetrack to ensure the V-Series stays on the cutting-edge of performance.”

The first event in the SCCA World Challenge is March 25-27 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Johnny O’Connell, a three-time GT1 champion in the America Le Mans Series, and Andy Pilgrim, who won the 2005 SCCA World Challenge GT class in a Cadillac, will be behind the wheel of the CTS-V racecars.

Introduced for the 2003 model year, the CTS-V has quickly earned a reputation among luxury sports car buyers. For the 2011 model year, Cadillac added the CTS-V Coupe and the CTS-V Sport Wagon to the CTS-V Sport Sedan, creating an impressive family of performance vehicles. The CTS-Vs feature Brembo brakes, a supercharged 6.2L V8 delivering 556 horsepower and a Magnetic Ride Control suspension system that can read and react to the road 1,000 times a second.

Started in 1944, the SCCA organizes and supports racing at all levels from amateur to professional. The World Challenge series is designed to provide teams, manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers a competitive production-based race series in which to prove their products. The races follow a 50-minute maximum time limit, with the number of laps and total distance determined by track configuration, lap times and race conditions.
